course has been developed to allow DEAs (Domestic
Energy Assessors) and Home Inspectors to become familiar
with common non traditional housing types and the
common defects associated with each one.
This course has been created in accordance with the
Technical Standards (CLG) for home inspectors the
latest guidelines concerning CPD from the RICS and
is accredited
as four CPD hours by the NHER & SAVA..
Non traditional dwellings are generally referred
to as system built or prefabricated. To the general
public the word ‘Prefab’ in the context
of housing conjures up a variety of mixed views and
opinions. Many consider these buildings as ‘temporary
accommodation’ constructed after the wars. However,
sixty years on they still represent a significant
proportion of our housing stock.
The aim of this course is to provide a technical
overview of the most popular types of non-traditional
dwellings. In addition, and most importantly to provide
information on visual recognition construction and
associated defects.
Objectives
On completion of this course the participant will
be able to :
- Understand the historical background of non traditional
housing both in political and socio-economic terms.
- Identify common types of non traditional buildings
in the UK, using visual indicators.
- Explain how non traditional dwellings were constructed.
- Outline associated defects and how they occur.
- Include non-traditionally constructed homes within
their professional remit.
To complete this course successfully the
following is required:
